What about EMP disabling the weapon? What about a power source failing? Power sources (batteries) have a nasty habit of failing at the wrong time. (Did you charge your gun up last night?) What about various electronics used and reliability? What about shock and vibration damaging the electronics? What about water immersion damaging the electronics? Or humidity causing corrosion to contacts, rendering the weapon useless? How about an all new logistics system for the new electronic ignition round? What about ejecting all that heat without it leaving the gun like it does with brass. Nothing like a real hot gun in your hand!

It sounds like a good idea, you can have it, I will keep my mechanical guns, they work fine....can you say Glock?

Another black hole for tax money.

And it won't work half as well in the field, as it does in the manufacturer's propaganda video. If it works at all.

What's the odds of a Metal Storm going off from a person getting tased or from static electricity ?

I don't expect that this technology will be available for us normal folks..

It sounds neat, but I wonder how much of a pain it will be to reload once all of your rounds are spent.

Doesn't matter what you think. But, that is one bad ass weapon. You can't afford it, I can't afford it. Guess who will be able to afford it.

I don't think the small handgun version would be out of reach in cost to the average Joe, it's electronic. It should be no more out of reach than the cost of a computer, DVD Player, or any other electronic gadget once it's mass produced.

The question is would the government allow the public to have it? I somehow doubt it.

The video doesn't load. How about a summary?

Could not watch the video, no response.

IIRC, the technology involves barrels that are pre-loaded or "stacked" with multiple propellant/projectile units, somewhat like a Roman Candle, with each unit wired to an electronic "master control" device that fires the ammo in each barrel in sequence beginning with the frontmost round. With multiple barrels the method can achieve tremendous ROF (as the next round can be fired before the prior one leaves the barrel), but I don't know about reloading.

Reloading looks like a pain. In fact it looks exactly like some early concepts from the days of muzzle loading and black powder. Here's the thing though... it's got an insanely high ROF but there is no way on earth the first bullet out the barrel will get anywhere near a complete burn so it's velocity will be hundreds of FPS lower than the last round out, which is being fired at virtually the same moment. That suggests to me that the last few rounds will be impacting the first few rounds in mid flight, I highly doubt the precision accuracy claims. I also highly doubt the effectiveness of this weapon against a human. The first bullet through will bore a hole all the other bullets will fly through, the terminal effect is almost certainly a lot less impressive than firing two spaced but well placed shots from a single action cowboy revolver. The cowboy actually has the advantage because he can fire two more 2 shot bursts after Mr. Metal Storm Pistol has blown his load. It would have some uses against armor or intercepting missiles but as an anti-personnel weapon any civilian market shotgun or rifle would be more effective and that's probably why no army has or ever will adopt Metal Storm as a standard issue small arm.

except, perhaps, on the receiving end. those guns are designed to wipe out camps - not just a simple person.

first they will say, "oh no, it's just for 'terrorists' " ... then we have Rahmbo saying "every American on the no-fly list is a terrorist" (most of those million+ Americans got on the no-fly list simply for criticizing the Bush administration) ...

what stops the government from using such weapons on homesteaders, a la Ruby Ridge ?

how long before they give SWAT teams access to weapons like this ?
